11/20/2017 0 Comments final blog postWhen I first walked into this class, I was quite nervous because I knew absolutely nothing about photography other than you clicked a button and the camera took a picture. I didn’t understand all of the settings on a camera, especially aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. When Mr. O’Donnell told the class to go out and take some pictures for the first time, I had not idea what I was doing. I didn’t know what to take pictures of and I didn’t know the proper lighting that I needed. I mostly asked my friend, Sarai, for help the first couple of times we went out to take pictures but then after a while, I started to get the hang of it. After a few weeks, we learned how to use manual mode. I was nervous at first because I thought I was going make the pictures turn out bad. But it turns out that using manual mode is a lot easier than I thought and it is my go-to setting when I use a camera. I also remember the first time we used photoshop in this class. I wasn’t too worried because I used photoshop my sophomore year of high school for another class but photoshop wasn’t as fresh in my mind like I thought. Now when I use a camera, I go straight to manual mode because I now understand the importance of different shutter speeds, aperture, and ISO for a particular picture. Using automatic mode isn’t always the best way to go go when taking photos and that’s what I learned. I feel like I am able to take better pictures of objects. Especially just random objects that people who don’t take photography wouldn’t usually think to take a picture of. Photoshop, at first, wasn’t a big concern for me because I used it for another class two years prior. I assumed that I would know how to use photoshop but when we did our first photoshop assignment, I was so lost. I needed to have the instructions right next to the photoshop window and I kept having to ask my friend for help. After a few assignments, I finally understand the basics of photoshop. I am hoping that I will keep this knowledge of photoshop so I could make things for fun on my own time. I am so happy that I had the opportunity to take this class. I have always wanted to go into photography but I was nervous that I wouldn’t pick up on the basics of it but it turns out it is a lot easier than I thought. Without this class, I wouldn’t have had the motivation to figure out how to actually use a camera and the small things that goes into photography. I would definitely recommend this class or a class similar to anyone who is even a little bit interested in photography. This image here is one of the very first pictures that I took in this class. To me, this is one of the worsts that I have taken. I didn't really know what to take pictures of. I was just snapping photos so when I came back, my teacher didn't think I was goofing off. I also wasn't trying too hard because I really wanted to go outside and take pictures of things that I found cool instead of the building. This is one of my favorite pictures I have taken in this class. I honestly think it is the best one. I went to downtown Ann Arbor and I took a lot of pictures for the architexture assignment and I very quickly snapped this picture because it started raining pretty hard. After I got back to school and started editing my photos, this one caught my eye. I am very proud of the way this one turned out, especially with the editing.

For this assignment, I had to find two words in the dictionary and find pictures that goes with the definition of each word. The only thing that was difficult for me was actually finding a word because I looked for some words online but I couldn't think of any pictures that relate to it. Finally, I just went on a website where the do a "Word of the Day" and that is where I found both of my words!
11/14/2017 0 Comments Photoshop assignment, visual punsFor this assignment, we had to either think of or find examples of visual puns. These are my visual puns that I made. The first one is "book worm" the second one is "deviled egg" and the last one is "just in case"
Making the pictures weren't difficult for me, it was thinking of what to make that was difficult. I am getting the hang of using photoshop so being able to do this assignment without any instructions on how to put the pictures together is pretty cool to me. 11/13/2017 2 Comments Photo assignment 7, eventFor this weeks photo assignment, I decided to chose an event to take pictures of. This weekend, we had our family Christmas and we had Santa come for the kids, we had a ticket raffle, and also people brought items that they don't use and we have a raffle to see who wins those items. I didn't do much to edit my picture. I just cropped it down a tad and fixed the levels and brightness/saturation. The picture on the left is the unedited version and the picture on the right is the edited version Shutter Speed: 1/25 Aperture: 4.5 ISO: 400 This assignment wasn't too difficult because there was so much going on. The only thing that was difficult for me was getting peoples reactions to certain things such as the kids meeting Santa. I really wanted to get the kids reaction of them shaking his hand but I didn't want to get in the way of their parents picture so I took it from that angle that everyone else was taking pictures on. Also the lighting was very strange so many of the pictures didn't show up as clearly as I was hoping they would.
11/10/2017 0 Comments photoshop assignment 6, multiple meFor this assignment, I had to go somewhere in the school and take multiple pictures of either ourself or of another person and in that area. We then had to go into photoshop and put them together to make it look like there are multiple versions of ourself. Our teacher instructed us that we make one easy one and one more difficult. The photo on the left is the easier one and the photo on the left is the more difficult one. These weren't that difficult but I did have trouble trying to fix the one of her near the window.
11/6/2017 0 Comments photo assignment 6, ArchitectureFor this assignemnt, I decided to go to downtown Ann Arbor and take pictures of the architecture. The picture on the left is the unedited version and the picture on the right is the edited version
Shutter Speed: 1/25 Aperture: 3.5 ISO: 400 This wasn't too difficult because Ann Arbor has some beautiful architecture so it wasn't hard to find things to tke pictures of. The only thing that made this assignment difficult is the sky was grey and it was raining so some of my shots had some rain drops on the lens that I didn't notice was there. 11/2/2017 0 Comments Photoshop Assignment 5For this assignement, my teacher set up a little studio in the hornet hub and we had to take pictures using the lighting given. We also had to use natural lighting and we had to a white piece of paper to reflect light so there is no weird shadow on one side of their face. The photo on the left is the natural lighting and the photo on the right is the studio lighting. 10/30/2017 1 Comment October 30th, 2017For this assignment, I had to take pictures of people and show emotion and also fill the frame. Featured in this picture is my beautiful mother. The picture on the left is he original, unedited photo and the picture on the right is the editied one. I cropped the picture so she would fill the frame more, I adjusted the levels to make her skin color less orange, and I adjusted the brightness and contrast because even with the kevels adjusted, something still didn't look right. Shutter Speed: 1/20 Aperture: 3.5 ISO: 200 To me, this assignment was trickier than I thought it would be. I took most of these photos later at night so I had to fix the lighting, but to me the lighting I tried to make them look better ended up making them look orange in the finished products. So I had to use photoshop to make them less orange.
10/27/2017 0 Comments October 27th, 2017For this assignment we were able to chose what we wanted to photoshop and how we photoshopped it. We were given a list of websites and videos we could chose from or we could find ones on our own we wanted to do. An assignment we had to do was a color pop assignment. The photo on the left is the original and the photo on the right is edited. Here is the link to this tutorial: Color Pop I chose to do this assignment because I thought it was interesting. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be and I think the outcome is very cute. Here is the link to this tutorial: Polaroid For this one, I had to use photoshop to create some sort of sphere. Now, I didn't use the same picture of the person as the website did but I did use a picture of my little cousin and it turned out the same as the original would have. This one wasn't too dificult but there was a part that I was stuck on but I ended up figuring it out with the help from my teacher in about five minutes. Here is the link to this tutorial: Mental Sphere What I learned about these photoshop shop assignments is that it takes time and practice. I learned how to turn a section of a photo black without making the whole photo black. I also learned how to use the drop shadow layer, which in the end, made the polaroids look neat.
10/23/2017 3 Comments photo assignment 4, foodFor this assignent I took pictures of food and my goal is to make it look as mouthwatering as possible by the way the food is set up and by the editing I do to it. The photo on the left is the original photo I took. On the left is the edited version. What I did was I used the stamp tool to edit out the black speck on the middle french fry. I also raised the brightness and contrast of the photo. I adjusted the levels and raised the vibrance and saturation to make the color of the french fries more vibrant and bright. Shutter speed: 1/13 Aperture: 3.5 ISO: 800 This assignement was fun to take. I has to rearrange the food we got and I had my family not eat until I finished taking picures. I also got some weird looks from staff and other people eating but I thought it was funny. It definitley wasn't a challenging assignment but trying to figure out how to place the food and set it up was tricky, especially since my mom and dads food looked more appealing to the eye than me and my brother's.
